Animation Market Research

In this post I will be researching the current animation/animated series market.

According to Precedence Research,

"The global animation market size was estimated at USD 391.19 billion in 2022 and is predicted to reach over USD 587.1 billion by 2030."
Technological advancements are a major factor driving growth of the animation industry along with the emergence of virtual reality and artificial intelligence. 2D animation specifically is anticipated to register its highest growth rate over the next nine years. Along with this, the motion graphics market will also be growing at a considerable pace and will fuel growth of the animation industry in the near future. North America is likely to be the largest market for animation in the coming years as it was the largest market in 2020, followed by Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East and Africa.
Some of the major firms for the animation market are:
  • Adobe
  • Animation Sharks
  • IdeaRocket
  • Triggerfish Studios
  • NewTek, Inc
  • Corel Corporation
  • Autodesk Inc.

Based on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

"Employment of special effects artists and animators is projected to grow 5 percent from 2021 to 2031, about as fast as the average for all occupations.

About 6,700 openings for special effects artists and animators are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire."

As for pay, "the median annual wage for special effects artists and animators was $78,790 in May 2021," which is higher than the average American's salary.

As for states with the highest employment level in special effects artists and animators, the top contenders are California, Washington, Georgia, New York, and Florida.

Based on my research, it appears that the animation industry is growing in size and value, but not much in the employment field. This makes the job market for animators more desirable but more competitive as well. Because of this, many aspiring animators will either not make it in the industry, or have to already have a leg-up on the competition, like having already established connections with important individuals in the animation industry.
